Great Summer For Downtown Concerts

Mother Nature was good for the Downtown Kingsport Twilight Concert Series this year. We last had rain six weeks ago or so here in East Tennessee. There were a few localized thunderstorms here and there, but Friday nights have been perfect for live music downtown this year.

I've made it to a few shows right down the block from Over The Blackheart. We've been busy on some Friday nights with the Samantha Gray band. On those nights I wasn't playing a gig, I enjoyed hanging out with my friends in the streets right down the road.

One of the best shows was the Departure Tribute Band. Many folks still like the journey anthems, and this tribute band has been throwing out the best interpretations of the San Francisco anthem rock band of the 1970s and 1980s. After 17 years of shows across the nation, its polished sound takes you on a trip back in time when you close your eyes.

I was incredibly proud to wager with Alderman Darrell Duncan on the first one of their set scores. Anyway, You Want It!

The crowd was thick that night, and by the time the sunset, cell phones were in the air during the Don't Stop Believin and Faithfully encores.

Excellent job; Visit Kingsport, The Downtown Kingsport Association, and the City of Kingsport. Of course, you're just getting started. Up next, Fun Fest for 2024!
