There was a breeze from the East that came into Kingsport last Thursday night as Chairmen of the Board brought their Carolina Beach Music to the streets for Downtown’s weekly Twilight Alive Concert series.

A good crowd was on hand for the hazy Summer night. As for most downtown concerts, the lawn chairs were out, but there was plenty of room for the local Mountain Empire Shag Dance Club to slip on the loafers and bright Summer apparel and shag before a crowd of close to a thousand people.

Chairmen of the Board are a Michigan based soul band who gained national appeal with their million-selling “Give Me Just A Little More Time.” Together with their band which included a three-piece horn section, they dazzled the crowd with their tight soul riffs and audience participation which included teaching a few dance steps to the crowd on hand and bringing several fans on stage.

Favorite moments of the night…hanging out with Folk Soul Revival talking about the upcoming new album “Prompting the Dapperness” and watching Graham Clark, coach of the Dobyns-Bennnet Indians cut a rug on Broad Street.
